Lauréate des résidences 2018 d'Oudeis, Selma Lepart développe un projet au croisement de l'expérimentation scientifique et artistique et prenant également corps dans le cadre d'un doctorat.

Le projet consiste en un ensemble d'œuvres caractérisés par des comportements évolutifs et autodéterminés, utilisant, entre autres, des "matériaux adaptatifs" c'est-à-dire capables de modifier leurs propriétés physico-chimiques sous certaines circonstances. C'est le cas pour R.E.D. une installation dans laquelle Selma Lepart introduit une "réaction épidermique" d'une surface de papiers à la présence du public.

Dans cette nouvelle recherche de Selma Lepart se pose la question de distinguer les comportements des propriétés, ainsi que celle de la manifestation de l'intelligence. Selma Lepart cherche à donner vie à des œuvres qui développeraient leurs propres stratégies d'existence et seraient confrontées à leur terminaison, à leur mort.

Ce projet intéresse tout particulièrement Oudeis au regard de notre axe de travail "Exposition & automatisation". Lors de la rencontre que nous avons organisées en juillet 2018, la proposition de Selma Lepart a évolué. Comment traduire la temporalité et les enjeux d'une recherche qui se déroule sur une durée étendue, qui fait appel à des hypothèses, à des prototypages, à des concepts au croisement de l'art, de la philosophie, de la science, de l'éthique ?

Dans le cadre de la résidence de recherche Oudeis, Selma Lepart s'appliquera à créer une œuvre évolutive ainsi que des supports et réflexions impliquant différentes formes d'archivage et de communications. Elle a choisi pour la première fois la forme fictionnelle  en privilégiant une forme de fiction souvent employée sur les réseaux sociaux et nommée « thread ». La narration sera montée et manipulée crescendo. Elle débutera par un face camera entrecoupé de prises de vue par téléphone et ira parfois jusqu'à un véritable montage des images faisant douter les followers les plus attentifs. Ils pourront ainsi liker/disliker, mais aussi commenter et interagir avec la personne principale. Cette interaction nourrira elle-même la narration qui évoluera avec et grâce à son contexte environnemental.

L’utilisation de thread présente des avantages qui peuvent être déclinés en trois points :
Permettre d’aller chercher le public sur un territoire qu’il fréquente déjà, donner un caractère social à la narration, et enfin, profiter de l’engagement que peut avoir le public face à une histoire qu’il considère vraie.

Laureate of the 2018 call "Digital Potlatch", Selma Lepart was chosen in residence in Oudeis to work on her doctoral research project. It is a question of creating a set of works with autonomous and evolutionary behaviors, by using, among others, "adaptive materials" that is to say able to modify their physico-chemical properties under certain circumstances. It is the case for R.E.D. an installation in which Selma Lepart introduces an "epidermal reaction" of a surface of papers to the presence of the public. In this new research by Selma Lepart, the question arises of distinguishing behavior from properties, as well as from the manifestation of intelligence. Selma Lepart seeks to create  works that would develop their own strategies of existence and would be confronted with their ending, their death.

As part of the Oudeis research residency, Selma Lepart will apply to create an evolving work. She chose for the first time the fictional form by favoring a form of fiction often used on social networks and called "thread". The narration will be edited and manipulated crescendo. It will start with a camera face interspersed with shots over the phone and sometimes go to a real montage of images making doubting the most attentive followers. They will be able to like / disliker, but also comment and interact with the main person. This interaction will feed the narrative that will evolve with and through its environmental context.

The use of thread has advantages that can be broken down into three points:
To allow the public to go to a territory that they already frequent, to give a social character to the storytelling, and finally, to take advantage of the commitment that the public can have in the face of a story that they believe to be true.
